NOTICE: TN DEPT. OF REVENUE INSURANCE VERIFICATION SYSTEM
Effective January 2017, a new Insurance Verification System will
be launched by the Tennessee Department of Revenue. Drivers are advised
to verify the Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) on their registration
and insurance card is correct. Insurance companies will report required
policy information to the Department of Revenue. Drivers will not be
required to submit proof of insurance unless the verification process
does not confirm insurance coverage.
You must be a current Montgomery County resident, an active duty soldier listing Tennessee on your LES for state taxes, or an active duty soldier providing current Orders to Fort Campbell. Your application will be processed within
one business day of receipt. Please allow five (5) days for postal delivery. If you need faster processing, please visit the Montgomery County Clerk's Office at 350 Pageant Lane, Suite 502.
For specialty class plates that require proof of membership or military credentials, documentation can be attached with your online application. To verify if your license plate requires documentation to be submitted, click here. If you have any questions please contact our office at (931) 648-5711.
The processing fee is 2% of the total plate cost plus $1.00. You will also pay the mail fee of $2.00. Some e-mail filters and spam blockers can prevent you from receiving the confirmation e-mails
generated by the web-server. To process your renewal online, you will need the following:
- Valid credit card (VISA, MasterCard or Discover)
- License plate number
- The license plate expiration date can not be more than 90 days away.
Electric Vehicle Registration Fee
The
registration fee for electric vehicles will be $100. The electric
vehicle registration fee is in addition to the standard registration
fee.
Registration renewal notices, issued by the State of Tennessee, will reflect the new fee increase beginning in July.
